In 1548, Portuguese explorers landed on Tanegashima Island in the Province of Kyushu, Japan. These merchants were the first to bring modern guns into Japan during the time of the Japanese Civil War. These clan leaders needed modern weapons for their samurai worriors to run the countryside.
By the later half of the 19th century, the Mito clan was well established in an area northeast of Tokyo. In a small gun repair factory, which belonged to the clan, Mr. Shigyo Sakaba worked as a gunsmith’s apprentice. In 1855, at the age of 20, the feudal lord appointed Shigyo Sakaba to the position of gunsmith to supervise the development and production of guns for the clan.
This small factory was known for it’s craftsmanship; producing guns of the highest quality and strongest construction. Mr. Shigyo Sakaba is considered to be the founder of the current SKB( SaKaBa ) Arms Company. Today, SKB incorporates modern technology with old world craftsmanship to produce a complete line of premium grade competition shotguns.
SKB was founded in this tradition producing guns of strongest and highest quality without being involved in trendy fashion. SKB has always had a very conservative look with restrained styling and emphasis on the performance features of the shotgun. In fact our guns made over 30 years ago are still in use today at competitive target shoots around the world.
All models are powered by fast V-shaped hammer springs to resulting the crisp trigger pull with good balance for quick and responsive handling. We offer a variety of hunting and competition models in over & under and semi automatic shotguns. All barrels of SKB shotguns are proof tested with special high-pressure ammunition to insure strength and durability.

The old Kerstin locking system is extremely strong and allows for the low profile design of the SKB action. The lock up is obtained between two rear barrel extensions of the monoblock that engages two inlet slots in the receiver. In addition to the locking bolt, the monoblock has three additional locking & alignment lugs precisely machined for the added strength.
The barrel group rotates on bifurcated lumps that engage trunions in the wall of the receiver. There is no denying the efficiency of the SKB design.
A detachable trigger mechanism is used in all Premium grade competition models. The trigger group is retained by means of a large screw located behind the trigger guard. Four turns of a screwdriver or coin is all that is reqiored to release the unit. This is a much simpler and safer system than the complex catch mechanism.
The detachable trigger mechanism is non-selective mechanical system. The hammers are powered by large V-shaped springs, which have faster lock time than coil springs. The trigger pull is very crisp and relatively light due to the straight sear let off. An adjustable trigger shoe is available on model 5000.
The premium grade barrels are chromed lined and have ventilated side rib to dissipate heat more efficiently The flat top ventilated rib is 12mm wide the surface is machined with a 5- groove center channel and fitted with target sights. The gun is balanced at the hinge pin. so that the the weight is evenly distributed between both hands. This is the recipe for a low moment of inertia and smooth effortless handling. Although some others shotguns feel as though they are fighting back, SKB becomes a natural extension of the shooters arms and flows toward the target.
The stock has been designed with a double palm swell and a pronounced pistol grip to give positive swing control. Fitted with 15mm rubber recoil pad, this insures a comfortable shooting even in the longest competitive events. The fine line diamond checkering is cut sharp to provide a positive grip in both hands.
